The Rosy Fingers of Dawn

A new day has risen, indeed. Of course, I would never suppose this message would reach the President of the United States, but if it did, what would I say to him?

Good morning, and thank you for taking responsibility for Ukrainian victory. It appears that you are willing to do what Joe Biden did not do.

Well done, President Trump! I hear that our Ukrainian allies have been given free use of long range weapons. Our long range missiles demonstrate a cutting edge of American military warfare. The permission to use long range weapons is a welcome boon to our allies. Now the question, which weapons to provide? Also, how wise of you! It is through the liberation of Ukrainian land that I believe you will find a haven for the righteous in the history books.

The distinction should be obvious that this is a new day. Joe Biden did not provide the Ukrainians with one of our old reliables, the Raytheon Tomahawk. You have shown a keen understanding of the value of branding, and this missile is both incredibly effective, and the victories achieved with it cannot be attributed to the former administration. And come on, is there a more American weapon system?

Imagine the impact of such a statement. Imagine the children in American and Ukrainian streets, chopping at the air, yelling, “Tomahawk! Tomahawk! Tomahawk!”

The provision of Trump levels of war material to the Ukrainians can almost certainly guarantee victory over the medium term. If the Ukrainians doubled the number of their forces, the Russians would be forced to do the same. If the Russians were not able to keep up sustained reinforcement, their lines would thin. When found, the exploitation of such weaknesses could cause a cascade of failure in the Russians lines. This is why the provision of war material to Ukraine is not only in accord with morality and public opinion, but represents an additional cost to Putin. A two for one investment, what a deal.

And finally, I would beg you, the President of the United States, to close the skies over Ukraine. Putin wears down the brave Ukrainian people by killing innocent civilians, children among them. More people will die tomorrow, and every day that the skies are not closed. Another achievable objective to distinguish this new day.

The path to a just and lasting peace begins with the liberation of Ukrainian land. If Russia is allowed to occupy Ukraine, Ukraine will be in a persistently destabilized state, and vulnerable to any number of regime changing attacks.

The liberation of Ukrainian land is beyond what many in Ukraine dare to hope for, today. But that is another way to distinguish yourself–provide hope. Real hope.
