Will They Say the Same of Us?

In Rene Descartes’ Discourse on the Method, I read out a tenet of the man’s mind. He wrote that each problem should be divided into small pieces, sufficient for their adequate solution. One of his steps, in interpreting reality.

I believe that Putin will attempt to manipulate President Trump to end the fighting in Ukraine. (Despite the braggadocious noise from the Kremlin, his agents have been whispering peace so loudly, they risk divulging themselves as fish-brained advocates of Russia.) President Trump could blame President Zelensky for not cooperating with a capitulating solution, and punish him. But, he could also see the situation as it truly is for the first time.

Ukraine is our ally, and Putin and his Russia are our enemies. Ukraine is defending herself. And she can win.

Our minds must be plastic to reality, otherwise we reason in a wonderland of our own making. My rude characterization of Descartes again, this time, something he saw as a maxim. Ukrainian defense depends upon American supply. With diminished supply Ukraine will not win, but with increased supply Ukraine can win.

Self determination is the first right of any democracy. Further, it is the reason that democracy exists, so that those who are obligated to the state, can collectively control their destiny. (This remains true, though complicated now, in this time, by malicious influence onslaughts.)

Ukraine has earned the right of self determination. It is only reasonable that they have ultimate authority to decide what they will do for themselves. If it seems unfair that we are put in a position where we pay to supply the Ukrainians, and they use their blood to fight, then blame Putin, and Putin only.

As I have written in the past, it is not out of an abundance of love for the Ukrainian people that I make these claims, it is based upon our shared experiences. The Ukrainians have demonstrated martial excellence, and remarkable responsibility in the face of overwhelming loss. The Ukrainians have never let us down, and they still fight. Now, my clever and bright eyed American, look at Ukraine, and wonder if they will say the same of us?
