Thank You, France.

People of France! I approach you not as an envoy of the United States, but as a pauper, come to ask and learn. Have you met the people of Ukraine? Ah, wonderful! Then you need not be convinced of their quality, for to meet them is to love them. It is on their behalf that I seek guidance today.


I have heard of some difficulty in policy concerning the conflict facing our world. I submit that lives could be saved by the effective, responsible, but most importantly, immediate free use of weapons against positions currently attacking Ukraine. I present the Ukrainian martial history of responsibility in this conflict. It doesn’t require my advocacy. What blessings could my worthless words add to it? It is not out of a generosity of spirit that I attribute responsibility to my ally, it is our shared history. They obey the rules.


Recruiting them into democracy has been wonderful! Now, beautiful France, I remember you. I know that my freedom today is a direct result of your leadership in the world, throughout her history. I remember the help that you gave to my country when we too were young. My dear lady of the church, do you suppose that America has forgotten you? I assure you, ma’am, I have not. And as a pauper, I borrow this: If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk through my garden forever.


I remember the gifts of France: my American self determination, my American liberty, and Daft Punk.


I entreat you lady, lead my country once again. Gift us, this time, with your wisdom. Putin threatens death to all who oppose him. Does he? He lies constantly, so I don’t listen. But even if the threat of total nuclear annihilation were legitimate? Share with me your wisdom, what is better: the love of life or the love of righteousness?


Now, as a pauper, I lie prostrate before you, I beg you to throw wide open the arsenal of democracy once again. One more time.

The Trump Lump

I think of support for Trump as an artificial thing. A big bag of gas, a nation sized bag. When fully inflated by the attention economy, superfluous issues, such as those affecting superheroes, seem to outweigh the legitimate operation of government. But as it deflates, it becomes merely a lump. The Trump Lump. People make up the Trump Lump. And although they can check out anytime they like, some will never leave. Those folks I think of as End Lump. Some good people will be trapped in there, just as certainly as there are among the gentle ancient people who, to this day, declare fealty to the Austrian Painter, in their dementia.
