Trump Does Not Understand Money

Donald Trump gave another embarrassing speech. While on the campaign trail, Donald Trump took the opportunity to try and make some splash. This time, he pretended to know things about other countries, and what was going on in the world. I remain unconvinced.

In Donald Trump’s speech, he criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a salesman. I imagine Donald has a sore spot there, as he was impeached for trying to extort Zelenskyy. I refer to impeachment classic, not ‘new’ impeachment. He had two, if you don’t recall. Anyway, after defaming President Zelenskyy as the best salesman in the world, he went on to lie about the amount of money the United States has invested in Ukraine. Well, he may not have been lying. He could also be stupid.

I am an advocate of our American ally, Ukraine. President Zelenskyy is not the best salesman in the world, he doesn’t have to be. The righteous endeavor of the Ukrainians is obvious. As are the consequences of allowing Putin to gain from his mass murder and destruction. The investment that President Zelenskyy offers would be a bargain at twice the price. They pay blood, all we have to contribute is material and money.

Donald Trump frames his advice as if he knows something about money. But he clearly doesn’t count well, as he made wild exaggerations about the amounts provided by the United States. He probably should not have a job where he has to count money.

And beyond that, his claims to understand money are overstated. Money is a means to purchase goods and services. It seems like when he talks about the money America has invested in Ukraine, he thinks it would be better used in a pile somewhere. How prudent to hoard. I remind you Donald, that every heartbeat marks a step to our graves. At that end, what is the value of money? Certainly, the money spent to save the lives of people, will have been money well spent. The only virtue money can do, it does when it is given away.

I also don’t think Donald Trump truly appreciates that the provision of aid to our ally has a cost. He doesn’t understand it because he has never really worked for his money, and he has never experienced poverty. Americans know there is a price. I can’t speak for all Americans, but I am happy to pay it. I understand the value in advancing the interests of democracy around the world.

We want countries to join us in enjoying the peace and stability of the rule of law. Let everyone, even old partners, now distant, join us and prosper in fair trade! Our way is better. At minimum, no democracy will choose to become a murderous war machine, slaughtering its own people as a means to the ends of an autocrat.

And finally, it is astounding to me that Donald Trump aligns himself with an enemy of the United States. And his mind numbing argument for throwing another of America’s allies under the bus? Well, Joseph Stalin was tough in world war two. The Russians might win. Whoever is the brain dead idiot running this man’s campaign, by all means—keep up the work!
